FROM OUARZAZATE: 3 Days Desert Tour: Rose valleys – Todra Gorge – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi dunes

On this tour we drive along the road of a thousand Kasbahs. We drive through red Atlas mountains, Berber villages, green valleys, palm groves and pink rose valleys. Each village has its terracotta colored kasbah or ksar and mosque. We pass mountains with amazing “finger-formed” rocks and visit massive canyons. We follow a short stretch of curvy roads and pass date valleys.

You experience the high sand dunes of Sahara, ride on a camel into the sunset and sleep in a desert camp.

    DAY-BY-DAY PROGRAM
    Day 1: Ouarzazate - Skoura oasis - Kasbahs - Rose valleys - Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge
    Departure at 9 am, when the driver/guide picks you up at your hotel or riad.

    On the way you pass the beautiful oasis of Skoura with many ancient Kasbahs standing amongst the palm trees. We continue through the valley of roses to the village Kelaa M’gouna. We stop for Berber tea and refreshments in front of the valley view.

    We continue the drive along the valley of the thousand Kasbahs towards Dades Gorges.

    The landscape is sensational, going through the red Atlas mountains, Berber villages and green valleys with palm groves and pink rose gardens (in springtime). Each village has its red colored Kasbah or ksar and a mosque. The Dades Gorges is amazing with its “finger-formed” rocks. This is a very picturesque part of Morocco.

    We stop for lunch in a local restaurant on the way.

    After lunch there is time for a walk along Boumalne Dades valley, before we drive to a guesthouse in Todra Gorge to spend the night.

    The canyon of Todra Gorge is massive. A 300 meter deep vault splits the orange limestone into a deep ravine. Driving through the Gorge gives you an amacing sight.

    Day 2: Todra Gorge - Erfoud - Merzouga - Erg Chebbi dunes - Desert camp
    After breakfast there is time to walk by the palm groves of Tinghir, before we head to the Merzouga dunes. We drive via the Ziz valley and the oasis of Tafilalet. This is one of the largest oases in the world and famous for its big, lusciuos dates.

    We arrive for lunch in the oasis town of Erfoud. In the afternoon we continue to Merzouga, where the camels are waiting to take you for a two hour camel ride into the Sahara desert.

    Climb a top in the Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy a beautiful sunset over dunes as far as the eye can see.

    Afterwards dinner is served in the desert camp. Enjoy the evening under the stars and sleep in a nomad tent.

    Day 3: Draa valley - Rissani - Tazzarine - N'Kob - Ouarzazate
    Early morning rise, you return by camels to the hostel in Merzouga for a shower and breakfast.

    We continue in our 4×4 car to the Draa valley, famous for its dates and further to Ouarzazate. We pass the villages Rissani, Alnif, Tazzarine (appearing in the film «Babel») and the old village N’Kob on the way.

    Lunch in N’Kob. After lunch we continue along the palm trees in Draa Valley and follow the former road for caravans. We pass many ancients Kasbahs, and one of the most well-known is Tamnougalte. At the town Adgz we turn into the paved road. After crossing the Anti-Atlas mountains and the Tizi n Tinfifite (1,660 m) we arrive to Ouarzazate at the end of the day.
