FROM MARRAKECH: 2 Days Desert Tour: Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Zagora – Desert camp

We head to the High Atlas mountains, crossing the Tiz n Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco. On the way we also pass Berber villages. The panoramic view is amazing with mountain peaks, valleys and twisting roads.

After a few hours we reach Kasbah Ait Ben haddou, the fortified city, or ksar, with beautiful kasbashs made of earth clay. Ait Ben Haddou is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage site. It has been a location for many famous films, such as «Lawrence of Arabia», «Jesus of Nazareth», «Babel» and «Prince of Persia» to name a few. Inside the city, or ksar, you walk by foot with a local guide to the top of a hill and get a good view of the whole city.

We continue to the city of Ouarzazate, also nicknamed the «door to Sahara». You have your lunch in a restaurant overlooking the historical and amazing Kasbah of Taourirt.

After lunch we go further south and cross the second mountain pass called Tizi N’Tnifift. Then we follow the old caravan route, which was used by Sahara traders in pre-historic times and it goes all the way to Timbuktu in Mali. We will however not go as far as to Timbuktu, but will continue to the village Agdz. This village is situated at the foot of the characteristic mountain Jbel Kissane and also along the shores of Draa river. We continue through Draa valley, a lush valley famous for its dates, before we arrive in Zagora.

From Zagora we start our camel trek into the desert sunset. At arrival to your desert camp, we are served a delicious dinner and the night is spent in nomad tents. If you prefer, you can sleep outside under the magical, starlit sky.
