Packing for desert tour
What to pack for a desert tour?
It all depends on what time of the year you are travelling.
From April to October the days / nights are warm. You can pack summer clothes. We recommend loose, comfortable clothes. June, July and August are the warmest months.
The spring months March / beginning of April and autumn months October / November are warm during the days, but for the nights you should bring long-armed sweater, jacket and comfortable trousers/jogging pants.
December, January and February are winther months and the nights are cold. Bring long-armed sweater, jacket and comfortable trousers/jogging pants and warm wool for the nights. The days usually have “T-shirt temperatures”.
Use warm clothes for the tour over the Atlas mountains during the early spring, late autumn and winter months.
Here is a list of useful things to pack:
- Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat/cap to protect head from sun
- Loose and comfortable clothes, t-shirts, shorts. Long-armed sweater, fleece, jacket, trousers/jogging pants, wool underwear for evenings – adjusted to time of year
- Note: It is not comfortable to ride a camel in a short shorts. We recommend trousers or long shorts for this activity.
- Swimwear for swimming in the hotel pool (if any) on the way to/from the desert
- Sandals, slippers, sneakers, comfortable shoes
- Antibac, paper napkins, toiletries, own medicines
The sleeping tents in the camps we use in our private tours are equipped with comfortable beds, sheets and warm blankets.
Our camp tents in Erg Chigaga have light inside and outside the tents and wall-to-wall carpet on the floors. It is possible to charge your mobile and camera in the restaurant tent.
If you are going on a customized wild camp tour (from camp to camp by camel), you might want to add:
- Small flashlight or headlight
- Small mirror
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Power bank to charge your mobile, camera or other things that need to be charged
- Travel first aid kit
